The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
