The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
