Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
