A crowd of earlier generations 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
