The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
