Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 So he came from the chamber to his people, and suggested to them (by signs) to sing the praises of the Lord morning and evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
