Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
