He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
