The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
