He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
