The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
