The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
