And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
