The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
