Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My servants, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
