Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Of evil-doers: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
