He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
