۞ And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. 23 And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little. 24 Your Lord knows very well what is in your hearts. If you are good, He is forgiving to those who are penitent. 25 And render to the kindred their due rights, as (also) to those in want, and to the wayfarer: But squander not (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. 26 Lo! the squanderers were ever brothers of the devils, and the devil was ever an ingrate to his Lord. 27 And if thou [must] turn aside from those [that are in want, because thou thyself art] seeking to obtain thy Sustainer's grace and hoping for it, at least speak unto them with gentle speech. 28 Do not be niggardly, nor extravagant that you may later feel reprehensive and constrained. 29 Indeed your Lord eases the livelihood and restricts it, for whomever He wills; He Well Knows, Beholds His bondmen. 30
