Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
