The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
