The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
