He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
