Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
