The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
