But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him. 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
