The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
