And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 The Trustworthy Spirit brought it down. (Angel Jibreel – peace be upon him.) 193 Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 Surely, it is foretold in the ancient scriptures. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 So it will come upon them suddenly, whilst they will be unaware. 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Hast thou then seen, if We content them for (long) years, 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And your movement among those who prostrate. 219 He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 And they speak what they do not do? 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
