Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
