The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And have made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
