He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
