Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 raised couches, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
