۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 What, do we then not die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
