The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
