The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
