The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
