The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
