The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
