The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
