By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to mortal man 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 About the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
