Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
