Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours - thereupon he says, "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
