The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
