Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
