Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter among My servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
