The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
