The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
