So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood [i.e. the people of Madyan (Midian) to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent by Allah), were also Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
