'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
