A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
