By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to humans, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
