Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
